Top 11 Facial Areas for Botox Injections

Botox is popular in the medical-aesthetics world for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles with a few tiny injections. But did you know that Botox can do much more than just treat forehead lines?

Botox can enhance your appearance and relieve facial pain in several surprising areas. Let's review the top 11 facial areas where our Nashville Medspa commonly administers Botox injections.

1. Forehead Lines

Forehead lines, also known as forehead wrinkles or expression lines, are the lines and creases that appear on the forehead. They are caused by repeated facial expressions like raising your eyebrows. Over time, these movements create lines in the skin that can become more pronounced with age and sun damage.

Botox injections relax the forehead muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. By targeting these muscles, Botox smooths out the skin, giving your forehead a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

With regular Botox sessions, you can maintain a smoother, wrinkle-free forehead and enjoy long-lasting results.

2. Frown Lines (Glabellar Lines)

Frown lines, also known as "elevens," appear between the eyebrows and can make you look angry or tired. These vertical lines can contribute to a worn-out or stressed appearance.

Botox relaxes muscles to prevent deep wrinkles from forming when you make facial expressions. This treatment helps reduce visible signs of aging and prevent new lines from forming.

Regular Botox injections can help maintain these results, keeping the skin between your eyebrows looking smooth.

3. Crow's Feet

"Crow's feet" is a common term for the fine lines and wrinkles that form at the outer corners of the eyes. These lines are typically more noticeable when a person smiles or squints. Crow's feet develop over time due to repetitive facial movements, sun exposure, and aging.

By injecting Botox into these areas, the muscles around the eyes relax, reducing the appearance of these wrinkles. This treatment makes the skin around your eyes smoother and helps open the eyes, giving you a more awake and youthful look.

Over time, regular Botox treatments can soften existing crow's feet and prevent new ones from forming.

4. Bunny Lines

Bunny lines appear on the sides of your nose when you scrunch it. They are more noticeable when you smile or laugh and may not be highly visible when your facial muscles are at rest. But as you get older, nose wrinkles, like most wrinkles, will likely deepen over time.

To fix bunny lines, a small amount of Botox is injected on each side of the nose. Muscle movement causes these lines, so no skincare products or topical treatments can match the effectiveness of Botox.

5. Brow Lift

A Botox brow lift, also known as a non-surgical brow lift, targets the top portion of the orbicularis oculi (the muscle around your eye). When injected properly, Botox relaxes this muscle to contract less, lifting the brow. This non-invasive treatment is a non-surgical way to gently lift the eyebrows and make the eyes appear more open.

6. Lip Flip and Gummy Smile

Lip flips involve injecting Botox into the upper lip area. This helps relax the muscles and allows more of the pink body of your upper lip shown.

This procedure is perfect for everting the lip without using fillers like hyaluronic acid. The results, however, are more subtle compared to just using lip fillers. Many of our Nashville clients choose to combine a lip flip with lip fillers for a more dramatic look.

Botox can also fix a gummy smile, where too much gum tissue is visible above the top teeth when you smile. Botox injections relax the muscles in the upper lip, limiting its rise when smiling and keeping the gums covered.

7. Downturned Smile

A downturned or droopy smile refers to a smile where the corners of the mouth turn downward rather than upward. This can give you the appearance of sadness or fatigue. Several factors, including muscle weakness or overactivity around the mouth, can cause a downturned smile.

During this treatment, we target the depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle that attaches to the corner of the mouth and the bottom of the mandible (lower jaw), just to the side of the chin. Injecting botox precisely into the DAO muscle achieves a targeted relaxation. This lessens the downward pull on your mouth corners, giving a slight lift and a more upward appearance.

The Botox “smile lift” can fix downturned mouth corners while preserving your ability to make natural facial expressions. You'll still be able to smile and frown naturally but with an overall more cheerful expression.

8. Lip Lines

Lip lines, often called smoker’s lines, are fine vertical wrinkles around the mouth, especially on the upper lip. They develop over time from aging, facial expressions, sun exposure, smoking, straw use, and genetics.

Botox targets the muscles that move and pucker the lips. By relaxing these muscles temporarily, Botox prevents them from forming wrinkles over time. This leaves the skin around the lips smoother and more youthful-looking.

Botox for lip lines serves as a preventative measure. For clients at our Nashville Medspa who want to correct established lip lines, we offer treatments using dermal filler or microneedling.

9. Masseter Muscle

The masseter muscle, which helps in chewing, lies on the side of your face. Injecting Botox into this muscle can alleviate teeth clenching and jaw pain, and reshape your jawline.

Botox is effective for treating both TMJ disorder (TMD) and bruxism (teeth grinding). By weakening the masseter muscle, Botox relaxes the jaw. This alleviates symptoms such as jaw tightness, pain in the jaw, neck, or face, tooth sensitivity or pain, headaches, tooth damage, and ear pain.

The masseter muscles also influence the shape of your face, often contributing to a square appearance. For those desiring a slimmer face, masseter Botox reduces muscle size, creating a more slender, V-shaped jawline. People also refer to this procedure as jaw reduction or masseter reduction.

10. Chin Dimples

A dimpled or pitted chin occurs when a muscle in that area contracts continuously. This movement can happen unconsciously, especially when we are concentrating. The persistent muscle activity stretches the skin, resulting in the appearance of dimples or pits.

To prevent these dimples, we need to relax the chin muscle. Botox does this by temporarily reducing its movement. This smooths out chin dents and improves skin texture, giving a more even appearance.

11. Jelly Rolls

Botox helps relax the lower portion of the orbicularis oculi muscle, which contracts around the entire eye when you smile, laugh, or squint. This contraction can cause a slight "roll" appearance under the eye, leading to fine lines even at rest. By relaxing this muscle with Botox, the eye area can appear more open and the under-eye smoother.
